ThanksI had a similar problem and found after some searching that in my case it was due to the SQL Express service being disabled.

Start -> Run and enter: services.msc
Go to the SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) service. If it is disabled, then go into properties, set it to automatic and start it.
Then try installing the updates again.
Once finished, you can disable the service again.
|||Probably should have mentioned that I checked for this. I'd seen this as a problem before and it is running, though I never actually use it.

Hi,

I've looked into this and think I've found the answer as it was causing other problems I've had...

I deleted from disk the entire of the profile of one of the user accounts I use, and this user account was the one under which most of the software on the machine was installed (even though installed for all users).

The problem was that the installation source MSIs were cached in that users profile, not the system profile (which I think is wrong) but the upshot was that any upgrade/remove of packages installed as that user failed.

When I checked the logs of 921896 and saw that it was complaining about missing source, I had to do what I did with all the other apps, and Zap the MSI installation database for SQL Express. Then, you need to delete the SQL services, delete the SQL registry keys, and then re-apply SQL Express. Then you should be OK. If you do actually have any data, you'll need to backup/restore.

Worked for me...

|||Yes, that is the resason for your backup failure. That happens now and then
and there are different causes and fixes. The best way is to avoid such a

and there are different causes and fixes. The best way is to avoid such a
problem by changing your job owner to a SQL login such as sa.

Error handling with MDX and Reporting Services

I have having trouble with an MDX Statement. There are some instances where the MDX statement I am passing in isn't correct or invalid. The report takes in serveral default parameters and creates an MDX statement from it. When this error happens I get an error similiar to

Formula error - cannot find dimension member ("[Time].[2005]") - in a name-binding function

on the report page. I would like to be able to handle this error in reporting services so how. Essientially, I would want to be able to just say if this error happens just take me the plain page and do not load up any defaults. You might consider this a hack, but this can be solved from outside Reporting Services with the new missing member functionality in 2005 (ie invalid member lookups wont generate errors),|||I am using RS 2005 and AS 2005 RTM.

I am having the report to accept a parameter UserUserID that accepts values such as [User].[User ID].&[1].

This is working fine when the front-end calls it with a correct/valid UserID.

When it is the calling the report with a valid UserID, two things that I observe happening:
a) when the Parameter is set to Hidden (on the Report Parameters properties), this error will be displayed "The 'UserUserID' parameter is missing a value"
b) when the Parameter is not set to Hidden, a blank page is shown with the parameter prompt <Select a Value>.

Is there any way to better handle situation a)? Since I need to hide the parameters from the end-users....

Thanks.
