error installing standard edition on a windows 2003 server

I have a windows 2003 server with the latest service pack and patches. This server also acts a domain controller.
Is installing standard edition on a server that is a domain controller supported because it looks like install is trying to create and add to local groups which are not present on a server if it is a domain controller.

I tried installing the standard edition of sql server and I get the following error:

You might want to try installing under rasied permissions for the user... Also from memory the install of the express products on vista had not been approved (Supported) and MS were working on it with the Newer SP for the express products. You might want to check it out with one of the guys from MS. Also if you could translate the error message to english it might help some of use read what is going on....

Error installing SQL Server Management Studio Express

Solved my own problem. Once I moved the msi to C:\ the installation worked. Apparently the path it was in was too long causing it to be unreadable. c:\xxxx\xxxx\SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msiSQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi.

Make sure you download the management tools for Express as well - it will make your life easier.

belittle it, but is not the most commonly used component of SQL Server.
So if you have no direct need of it, why not just skip installing it?

Do you plan to work with Notification Services? Not that I want to
belittle it, but is not the most commonly used component of SQL Server.
So if you have no direct need of it, why not just skip installing it?

Error installing SQL Server Developer 2005

I'm trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and each
time I attempt to I get the error message:
"Failed to install and configure assemblies C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\90\NotificationServices\9.0.242\Bin\microsoft.sqlserver.notifications
ervices.dll
in the COM+ catalog. Error: -2146233087
Error message: Unknown error 0x80131501
Error description: MSDTC was unable to read its configuration information.
(Exception from HRESULT: 0x8004D027)"
Not only that, but in my Component Services->Distributed Transaction
Coordinator section, I get the following error message when trying to open
either the Transaction List or Transaction Statistics:
"Cannot open this folder because connection to the MSDTC service on 'My
Computer' failed."
Please help!

and type "net start" <enter>. You should see a "distributed transaction

I need to install SQL Server 7 Desktop Edition on an XP Pro machine.
When I try, using my MSDN SQL Server 7 CD, I get an error dialog with
the following message. This error occurs before I get the splash
screen asking if I want to install the Desktop or Standard Edition.
"The Enterprise Edition server component cannot be installed on
Windows NT workstation using this CD. Only client components will be
available for installation."
What do I have to do to install 7.0 on XP Pro?

Error installing sql server 2005 express edition

I am trying to install sql server 2005 express edition.But i get an error stating that

sql server setup unexpectedly failed. For more information review the detup summary log file in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\summary.txt

Summary.txt looks like this.It has only these 3 lines of information nothing else other this, which i have seen in many posts.

Are there any files in the folder at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files? These are the detailed log files. If there are any files with similar date/time stamps as the summary.txt file, take a look at those to see if anything stands out.

Thanks for your reply. There are 2 more folders (Files and Hotfix). under Files there was a file named

SQLSetup0025_ARUN_Core.txt. I am not sure what these files mean and there are few more files under Hotfix. Any suggestions?

I get the following error installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition

Failed to install and configure assemblies C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\DTS\Tasks\Microsoft.SqlServer.MSMQTask.dll in the COM+ catalog. Error: -2146233087
Error message: Unknown error 0x80131501
Error description: You must have administrative credentials to perform this task. Contact your system administrator for assistance.

I am installing on Windows XP with Admin privs.

There is nothing listed in COM+ Services for SQL.

The Distributed Transaction Coordinator service is running.

There is a previous installation of SQL 2000 Developer Edition installed.

I have seen some pretty old posts with the same error.

I was wondering if there was a final resolution, service pack, etc. that solves this problem?

As I mentioned, there is nothing in COM+ services for SQL.

I just clicked ignore to let the installation continue.

I have not tried to use integration services yet.

Error installing SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition

Hello, I hope someone knows the answer to this issue. I am trying to install SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition and once I get to the screen that is asking for the SQL Server instance and Login Information I receive the following error when trying to proceed.

(Report Server database is a different version and cannot be used for this installation)

I have installed reporting services 2000 developer edition many times and I have never seen this error.

Are you adding a new Report Server to an existing deployment? If so then you are probably impacted by the Service Pack of the SQL Server instance.

I have seen something like this before but can't recall exactly the resolution. However I do recall I was able to find some documentation on this on the Microsoft site.

I ran into the same problem installing Reporting Services on a new web server and I deleted the Report and ReportTemp databases form the server and then the install went fine.

Error Installing SQL Server 2000

I have a problem installing SQL Server 2000 standard edition in a Windows 2003 Server , when I try to setup there is a message saying :
" You cannot install SQL server 2000 sp 2 and below in this operating system " and the installation stops .

I have tried to run sp3 before the installation but obviously It doesnt work . I think the solution is something like updating the setup program to make it work in Windows 2003 Server , when I see the system requirements on the box it says that I can install SQL server 2000 in w2003 .

It's a warning message telling you that you have to patch up to sp2 or later to run SQL on Win2003. It should let you install SQL 2000 after that message. If you have problems, it's probably something else. How could you have sp3 installed on the server if you haven't installed SQL on there?
