Error in MSDE Toolkit

Hello,
I am using the MSDE deployment Toolkit (RC) to deploy my application. I have my application, the setup project and the installer project in my solution. The installer project has embedded sql files for database creation and dropping only (which I create
d using the enterprise manager). Now when I run the setup, MSDE installs fine but during my applications setup I get the following error message:
"An exception occured in the OnAfterInstall event handler of PostInstall.CustomInstallActions. --> Value cannot be null."
I looked on web but couldnt really find anything about this error message.
Please suggest something. I wanted to post the SQL here but the message reached it's max count.
Thanks
dev
Hello dev,
Did you write the code that is running in the OnAfterInstall event? Or are
you using the sample code that comes with the Toolkit?
Can you post the code you're using? I don't need to seee the SQL at this
point.
Cheers,

Error in Metadata manager when trying to open calculations

Having an issue when I try to open the calculations tab in BIDS against an OLAP database or a MSAS project. BIDS hangs for a second than comes back with an "unexpected errror" in the middle of the screen and then shuts down. If I check the event viewer I get

Errors in the metadata manager. The configuration property updates were not persisted. Internal error: An unexpected exception occured

I can access every other tab in the project, just not the calculations tab.

Anyone run into this before?

Thanks

FJK,

I think I read some time ago that you could get this message if you have different msolap90.dll installed on your PC in different folders. Could you search for this dll on your PC and if different version found, try to replace dll to match.

Error in Deployment SSAS Project

Hi all,

I am getting an error while deploying an Analysis services project to my local server.

The error is as follows:

"Internal error: An unexpected exception occured."

I have no idea what this error refers to.....

Regards...

Girija Shankar

Hi,

I encountered this error before.

you should be able to see the detailed erroe message which you can discover from 'Event Viewer'.

Probably you have not started up your Analysis services server (you may want to look at if your analysis services has started up and if not, restart it and deploy your cube again).

Hope it helps.

With best regards,

Yours sincerely,

Error in Deploying an Analysis Services Project

Hi,

I am trying to deploy an Analysis Project and I get the error:

Error 1 The Description element at line 292, column 29 (namespace http://schemas.microsoft.com/analysisservices/2003/engine) cannot appear under Envelope/Body/Execute/Command/Batch/Alter/ObjectDefinition/Database/Cubes/Cube/Dimensions/Dimension. 0 0

Any idea?

Thanks in advance,

--Dimitris Doukas

Hi,

This is a defect that will be addressed in the service pack(s); meanwhile, to work around it, please do the followings:

- open each cube editor and, in the first tab (Cube Structure), check each cube dimension if it has a Description set

- remove all those Descriptions (by just specifying an empty string there) and then re-deploy

Adrian.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for the hint. Actually I had to edit the XML file to erase the description clause. If you just empty the string from the BI Studio if doesn't work.

Error immediately on creating new Integration Services project in VS2005

I am creating my first Integration Services project and am getting an
error immediately after creating the project. The error is in the
designer and it displays a red X, saying "Microsoft Visual Studio is
unable to load this document: Object reference not set to an instance
of an object". Clicking on the error in the error window just opens up
the xml file which contains the following:

I have VS2005 SP1, running WindowsXP SP2. Integration Services is
running on my machine, but I would think that this shouldn't matter
anyway as the error is happening before I have even indicated and data
source to use. If I take this xml file with the error and copy it to another new SSIS project on another machine, it works fine. Reinstalling VS2005 had no effect. I am now reinstalling SQL Server 2005 SP2 to see what effect that may have.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
MarcusTry searching, but in the mean time:

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1627891&SiteID=1|||Thanks for the link. I have seen that one, and I tried re-registering the xml dlls, but that didn't do anything. Hopefully after my reinstall of Sql Server things will be better.

Well that was disappointing. After the SQL Server reinstall and adding SP2 there is no change with my problem. >>HEAVY SIGH!<<. I think it is time to call MS...unless any other ideas?!?!?!?
