Error installing SQL Server 2005 Express Manager

Hello everyone,

My name is Pete and I'm new to this forum. Today, I installed Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 and SQL Server 2005 Express June CTP. The following error pops up when I attempt to install SQL Server 2005 Express Manager:

"The installer encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755"

I've downloaded this package several times and reinstalled it with no such luck.

Did anyone experience this same problem when you tried to install SQL Server Express Manager?

I suggest you try downloading the package again. We've had a couple of reports similar to this.

I downloaded and installed this package several times with no such luck. Below is the acutal text of the error:

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755"

Hi Dan,

I was able to successfully install SQL Server 2005 Express Manager. The resolution was to copy to the ExpressManager.msi file to the local disk, such as C:, then install it. It didn't work when I tried to install it from a network and or UNC name.

I understand that to install the Enterprise Manager, I need to download the entire trial version and then select only those components I want to install. After downloading the SQLEVAL.EXE file, attempting to run it generates the following error message:
"There is not enough space on drive c:\ to extract this package
Please free up 439.51 MB and click Retry"
But my hard drive shows over 40 GB of free space. Running XP Home Edition. Machine is 2 weeks old.
You are hitting the classical 4GB free space boundary problem. Create a dummy file of a few hundred MB and you
should be fine.

|||No, it is just when you are on a 4GB boundary (evenly divisable with 4GB). An old bug in the setup program
where some internal variable wraps around.

Error in the Metadata Manager

I'm attempting to deploy a new solution on AS 2005 developer edition. Apparently, a previous, unrelated solution deployment has a problem, and this prevents me from deploying mine. I've cleaned up the data directory, tried all sorts of options, but still I get the same thing. Here's the error:

Error 1 XML parsing failed at line 2, column 0: A document must contain exactly one root element. . Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when instantiating a metadata object from the file, '\\?\E:\SQL 2005\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\Analysis Services Project1.0.db\cluster Population By Zip ~MC.0.cub\~CaseDetail ~MG.0.det.xml'. Errors in the metadata manager. The dimension with ID of 'Population By Zip', Name of 'Population By Zip' referenced by the 'cluster Population By Zip ~MC' cube, does not exist. Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when loading the cluster Population By Zip ~MC cube, from the file, '\\?\E:\SQL 2005\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\Analysis Services Project1.0.db\cluster Population By Zip ~MC.0.cub.xml'.

Error in SQL Server Enterprise Manager

Hi Frndz,

I am using SQL Server 7.0, I will regularly take backup daily using sql

server enterprise manager. During backup running, i had cancelled

abnormally, when next time i take backup it shows the following error
"Microsoft SQL-DMO(ODBC SQLState:42000)"

CHECKALLOC, bulk copy, SELECT INTO, and file manipulation (such as

CREATE FILE) operations on A database must be serialized. Reissue the

I've got an error when I want to initialize the Report Server by means of RS Configuration Manager.

All points are check in green except "Encryption Keys" that is in "Optionnal configuration" and "Initialization" that is in "Not Configured".

The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. (rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable)

I am having the same problem.

|||First make sure you have correctly entered and apply the information on the "database setup" panel. I think the "Cannot generate SSPI context" error may contain a clue. A quick search found the following kb: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=811889. Let us know if it helps.

But now, I am getting the following error when I deploy my cube... "Errors in the metadata manager." The 'Time' many-to-many dimension in the 'AwardBridge' measure group requires that the granularity of the 'AwardDimension' dimension is lower than that of the 'Facts' measure group."

While I get what the error is telling me, I don't know where to look for the granularity issue. It is unclear to me why this occurs when I think I have everything at the same granularity level.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Error in Metadata manager when trying to open calculations

Having an issue when I try to open the calculations tab in BIDS against an OLAP database or a MSAS project. BIDS hangs for a second than comes back with an "unexpected errror" in the middle of the screen and then shuts down. If I check the event viewer I get

Errors in the metadata manager. The configuration property updates were not persisted. Internal error: An unexpected exception occured

I can access every other tab in the project, just not the calculations tab.

Anyone run into this before?

I think I read some time ago that you could get this message if you have different msolap90.dll installed on your PC in different folders. Could you search for this dll on your PC and if different version found, try to replace dll to match.

Error in metadata manager processing sample database/cubes

I've just installed SQL Server 2005 with Analysis Services and the sample AdventureWorks databases. When I try to process the database via SQL Server Management Studio, I get the following error - see below. I did check the xml file referenced by the name of the error and I do see the dimension listed Order Date key but not any attribute called Name of Date. Is there any workaround to enable processing of the database and cubes?

I did bump up to Sp1 and this did not fix my problem. I also tried installing the samples from the downloads section of microsoft.com. Alas, no success.

Here is simple way out of your situation

1. Stop Analysis Service.
2. Delete everything in your D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Data\Adventure Works DW.0.db folder.
3. Start the service
4. Re-deploy your sample project.

manipulation, or, as you noticed, even viewing large amounts of data.

numerous, as of yet, inexperienced, problems -of which this is just the tip
of the iceberg.
Your question is like asking how to hammer a nail with a screwdriver. And
when someone mentions that a hammer would be better, your response is like

Error in Enterprise Manager

Hi,
I have SQL Server Developer edition running on Windows XP, and when I open
SQL Enterprise manager and right click on any table on the master database
and select "Open Table" and then "Return all Rows" i got this error:
"An unexpected error occurred during this operation"...
Any ideas how to troubleshoot this issue is highly welcomed!

You may want to try and re-install the client tools!
If you want to see the SQL then use profiler to capture it.

Error in Enterprise Manager

In Enterprise Manager, when I expand the objects and click on the database
object for my live system I get the following error message:
Title bar: "Internet Explorer Script Error"
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 307
Char: 2
Error: Unspecified error.
Code: 0
URL:
res://C:\Program%20Files\Microsoft%20SQL%20Server\80\Too ls\Binn\Resources\1033\sqlmmc.rll/Tabs.html
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
Yes/NO.
Whether I press Yes or No the right pane say the database is undefined.
All other database work fine and the system seems to be running fine.
Any Ideas?

Is this in the taskpad view? If so, it happens to me a lot. A
workaround is to change the View to Large icons, Small icons, or
something besides taskpad. Then close EM, then open it back, and you
can then change the view back to taskpad. Not exactly sure why it
happens.

|||That did not work. I don't know what taskpad view is, but I changed view to
small icons then exited EM. Then re-opened EM and change back to Large
Icons, then open all objects and clickd on the database and got the same
error.
