error installing standard edition on a windows 2003 server

I have a windows 2003 server with the latest service pack and patches. This server also acts a domain controller.
Is installing standard edition on a server that is a domain controller supported because it looks like install is trying to create and add to local groups which are not present on a server if it is a domain controller.

I tried installing the standard edition of sql server and I get the following error:
ITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP Setup

SQL Server Setup was unable add user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM to local group SQLServer2005SQLBrowserUser.

Currently SQL Server 2005 will not install on a Domain Controller or on Windows Small Business Server. There is no known work around at this time other than installing on a machine that is not configured as a domain controller. This is a known issue and we're working on resolving it.

3.10 Installing SQL Server Express on a Windows Domain Controller

Security Note:

We recommend against running SQL Server Express on a domain controller.

It is possible to install SQL Server Express on a Windows domain controller; however, it cannot run on a Windows Server 2003 domain controller as Local Service or Network Service. SQL Server service accounts should run as Windows domain user accounts. It is also possible to install SQL Server service accounts to run as Local System, but this option is not recommended.

Do not change the role of the server after you install SQL Server Express. For example, if you install SQL Server Express on a member server, do not use the Dcpromo tool to promote the server to a domain controller. Or, if you install SQL Server Express on a domain controller, do not use Dcpromo to demote the server to a member server. Changing the role of a server after you install SQL Server Express can result in loss of functionality and is not supported.

Error Installing SQL Server 2000

I have a problem installing SQL Server 2000 standard edition in a Windows 2003 Server , when I try to setup there is a message saying :
" You cannot install SQL server 2000 sp 2 and below in this operating system " and the installation stops .

I have tried to run sp3 before the installation but obviously It doesnt work . I think the solution is something like updating the setup program to make it work in Windows 2003 Server , when I see the system requirements on the box it says that I can install SQL server 2000 in w2003 .

what can I do ?

thanks a lot for your help .That was not an error message. We have several DB servers with SQL 2000 running on Win2003. It's a warning message telling you that you have to patch up to sp2 or later to run SQL on Win2003. It should let you install SQL 2000 after that message. If you have problems, it's probably something else. How could you have sp3 installed on the server if you haven't installed SQL on there? I'm just taking what you said in your post.|||yes , It has to be something else . Of course I could not install sp3 because SQL server is not running .|||I got the same thing - ignore it. Just make sure you install SP3 and you'll be fine. After installing, you can check the event viewer, and see that it won't start the service until you apply the proper service pack.|||As I am saying the installation stops , and the setup dialog disappears , Nothing gets installed , I am started to think there is some problem with the windows 2003 server setup CD , I do not know ... any ideas ? I have tried to install SQL server from two different CDs and It doesnt work . Thats why I think the problem is with the Windows 2003 CD.|||you may need to update your msi installer. some times this can become corrupt. make sure you look up information on how to update the msi. i have never done this before but found that it could be a solution to your problem. one more thing BACK UP!!!! before you do this. error in xp_sendmail

Hi All,
I am using SQL SERVER 2005 Standard Edition. I have enabled
database mail from Surface Area Configuration and also configured
database mail from Object Explorer ->management.
When i am trying to send mail by using extended stored
procedure xp_sendmail i am getting error as follows:
xp_sendmail: Procedure expects parameter @.user, which was not
supplied.
It will be a great help if you guys can help me.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
It looks like you configured Database Mail, a new feature in SQL Server
2005, but are trying to send e-mail using xp_sendmail, a stored procedure
that uses SQL Mail, which is a different SQL Server feature. Use
sp_send_dbmail instead. Look BOL for more details and examples.
Make sure you really configured Database Mail, right-click Database Mail and
select 'Send Test E-mail' to test that it works.
By the way, SQL Mail, according to BOL, will be removed in a future version
of SQL Server.
Hope this helps,
Ben Nevarez
