Error installing SQL Server Developer 2005

I'm trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and each
time I attempt to I get the error message:
"Failed to install and configure assemblies C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\90\NotificationServices\9.0.242\Bin\microso ft.sqlserver.notificationservices.dll
in the COM+ catalog. Error: -2146233087
Error message: Unknown error 0x80131501
Error description: MSDTC was unable to read its configuration information.
(Exception from HRESULT: 0x8004D027)"
Not only that, but in my Component Services->Distributed Transaction
Coordinator section, I get the following error message when trying to open
either the Transaction List or Transaction Statistics:
"Cannot open this folder because connection to the MSDTC service on 'My
Computer' failed."
Please help!
Thanks in advance,

Maybe MSDTC is not running. You can check this by going into cmd
and type "net start" <enter>. You should see a "distributed transaction
coordinator" service. If not maybe its starttype is "disabled" and you
should change it to "automatic".

Do you plan to work with Notification Services? Not that I want to
belittle it, but is not the most commonly used component of SQL Server.
So if you have no direct need of it, why not just skip installing it?

Error installing sql server 2005 express edition

I am trying to install sql server 2005 express edition. But i get an error stating that

sql server setup unexpectedly failed. For more information review the detup summary log file in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\summary.txt

Summary.txt looks like this.It has only these 3 lines of information nothing else other this, which i have seen in many posts.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.3042.00
==============================
OS Version : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Time : Tue Apr 03 22:36:33 2007

I am using windows xp. Probably many of you might have had this problem.Could anyone please provide me with some help. Thanks in advance.

Are there any files in the folder at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files? These are the detailed log files. If there are any files with similar date/time stamps as the summary.txt file, take a look at those to see if anything stands out.

Thanks for your reply. There are 2 more folders (Files and Hotfix). under Files there was a file named

SQLSetup0025_ARUN_Core.txt. I am not sure what these files mean and there are few more files under Hotfix. Any suggestions?

Error Installing Service Pack 1

Hi all,
I tried to upgrade a clients site to Sp1 and got the following error:
"SQL Setup failed to connect to the database service for server
configuration. Refer to the Server error logs and setup logs for more
detailed error information."
I was just wondering if anyone else has come across this error and know any
ways to fix it?
Also does the account I am logged onto (or Term Served into) the box with
require access to the Configuration Database or the Database Server?
And I can't find any documentation on what security level is required for
applying the Service Pack ie. SQL System Administrator or just DBO of the
config database?
Thanks in advance.
Angus LoganJust like the original setup, the service pack uses integrated security to
update the ReportServer database. You need to have dbo privileges to the
database on the machine where setup is being run.

Error in Replication how to continue

I have transactional Replication from A to B.

My distribution agent failed becos of a primary key violation error in a table.[i have not included the skip error option].

Then the replication stopped.
The transactions on other tables are also not replicated to B.

IF an error is encountered in one of the tables will the replication stop entirely??.Is there no way for the replication to continue for the rest of the tables..
Pls clarifyI don't think you can skip this error. To use Replication you have to have a primary key in the table you want to replicate.|||The transactions are processed in a serialized fashion, meaning that if one failed nothing else goes through.

Error in DTS

Hi When I try to convert from Prervasive V8 to SQL using an ODBC connection. I receive the error message..

ParseDisplayName failed: The specified module could not be found.

Could anyone advise what this error is? And/Or how it could be resloved. This is happing when I press actualy try to convert. The wizard will go to that point then stop.

Thanks!

Error in Derived Column component

I am getting this error,

[Derived Column [192]] Error: Converting an input column from type DT_STR to type DT_WSTR failed. An error occurred while performing the implicit conversion on the input column.

But I don really understand y there is a attempt to type cast at all ?

Please advise ....

thanks in advance

The expression evaluator almost always implicitly converts DT_STR columns to DT_WSTR, because all string functions are implemented for Unicode only. There are only a couple very specific exceptions.

You might try to putting a data conversion transform in your flow and doing an explicit convert from DT_STR to DT_WSTR for that column and see if you get a more helpful error message. Or, redirect that row to an error output, and inspect the data and post it here.

Thanks
Mark

I thought of this earlier and when I tried with a Data Conversion Component, I was not able to locate an option as DT_WSTR. Am I missing something here?

thanks for the Help so far...

In the Data Conversion transform UI, in the Data Type drop down, you should see an option:

Unicode string [DT_WSTR]

In the column marked Data Type in your Derived Column Shape change the value from Unicode [DT_WSTR] to string [DT_STR]

Does this answer your question?
