error installing standard edition on a windows 2003 server

I have a windows 2003 server with the latest service pack and patches. This server also acts a domain controller.
Is installing standard edition on a server that is a domain controller supported because it looks like install is trying to create and add to local groups which are not present on a server if it is a domain controller.

I tried installing the standard edition of sql server and I get the following error:
ITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP Setup

SQL Server Setup was unable add user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM to local group SQLServer2005SQLBrowserUser.

Currently SQL Server 2005 will not install on a Domain Controller or on Windows Small Business Server. There is no known work around at this time other than installing on a machine that is not configured as a domain controller. This is a known issue and we're working on resolving it.

Dan|||is this fix now?|||

3.10 Installing SQL Server Express on a Windows Domain Controller

Security Note:

We recommend against running SQL Server Express on a domain controller.

It is possible to install SQL Server Express on a Windows domain controller; however, it cannot run on a Windows Server 2003 domain controller as Local Service or Network Service. SQL Server service accounts should run as Windows domain user accounts. It is also possible to install SQL Server service accounts to run as Local System, but this option is not recommended.

Do not change the role of the server after you install SQL Server Express. For example, if you install SQL Server Express on a member server, do not use the Dcpromo tool to promote the server to a domain controller. Or, if you install SQL Server Express on a domain controller, do not use Dcpromo to demote the server to a member server. Changing the role of a server after you install SQL Server Express can result in loss of functionality and is not supported.

Error Installing Service Pack 1

Hi all,
I tried to upgrade a clients site to Sp1 and got the following error:
"SQL Setup failed to connect to the database service for server
configuration. Refer to the Server error logs and setup logs for more
detailed error information."
I was just wondering if anyone else has come across this error and know any
ways to fix it?
Also does the account I am logged onto (or Term Served into) the box with
require access to the Configuration Database or the Database Server?
And I can't find any documentation on what security level is required for
applying the Service Pack ie. SQL System Administrator or just DBO of the
config database?
Thanks in advance.
Angus LoganJust like the original setup, the service pack uses integrated security to
update the ReportServer database. You need to have dbo privileges to the
database on the machine where setup is being run.

any ideas?

Does your server have MDAC 2.8 SP1 installed (It is a pre-req for SQL Server 2005 setup)? To see the version of MDAC installed, you can do the following.

1. Start ->Run and type "regedit".

2. In the registry tree in the left panel, drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DataAccess\Version. The version key should have "2.81.1117.0".

If MDAC version on the machine is less than 2.8 SP1, then you should go to download center and installing Mdac 2.8 sp1 redist from there.

If you have Mdac 2.8 sp1 installed, then can you provide the following info?

1. Are you an admin on the box?

2. What is the OS language although it shouldn't matter.

3. What is the language of SQL Server 2005 you are installing?

4. How are you installing it: Double-clicking setup.exe or through command line parameters passed to setup.exe?

5. Have you done previous installs of SQL Server 2005 on the machine?

6. Is the SQL Server 2005 you are installing an RTM release, if so which SKU?

Error in restore

Dear Newsgroup,
I am using sql server 2000 over win 2000 server with service pack 4.
I have been given a back up of a database (I have tried both from T-SQL and
Enterprise Manager)
T-SQL
RESTORE FILELISTONLY
FROM DISK = 'c:\A.bck'
RESTORE DATABASE B
FROM DISK = 'c:\A.bck'
WITH MOVE 'A_Data' TO 'c:\test\B.mdf',
MOVE 'A_Log' TO 'c:\test\B.ldf'
and as I try to restore I get the following error :
Server: Msg 3154, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'B'
database.
Server: Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
Would you kindly help me ''?
Thank you in advance,
YassYou need to specify the REPLACE option. This is needed when the target
database exists and the backup was created from a database with a different
name.
RESTORE DATABASE B
FROM DISK = 'c:\A.bck'
WITH MOVE 'A_Data' TO 'c:\test\B.mdf',
MOVE 'A_Log' TO 'c:\test\B.ldf',
REPLACE
