Error Installing Workstation Components SQL 2005 Enterprise

Hello. I am trying to install only the Workstation Components portion of SQL Server 2005 and I get about halfway through and the installation errors out. The error is:

EventType: sql90setup

P1: installtoolsaction

P2: 0xc0000006

P3: 0x78158a35

P4: 0xc0000006

P5: setup_sqlactionenginelistener.cpp@.198

P6: setup.exe@.2005.90.1399.0

P7: none

This happens after the second disk of the installation is about halfway through installing and then it throws an error stating that "The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume SQLSRVRS into drive D. Cancel, Try Again, Continue" I replace the disc with the first disc and if I pick "Continue" it will display the error above. If I pick "Try again" the installation finishes, but there are components missing from Visual Studio.

Here is the log file:

Did you get this solved? I don't think this is a known issue. Possibly it's a bad disk. If you're still blocked by this please either file a bug or post a link to your complete setup logs.

Thanks,

|||If you want to install only client components, start setup from disc 2. That should fix the problem. I saw this error message commented somewhere, it is even worse when you use unattended setup from CD1 for client components only.|||

I think there is a problem with the disc because I was able to install the Workstation Components from the Developer disc that came with VS .NET 2005 on the same machines. I guess we will need to send them back for new discs.

Thanks!

|||We also ran into this problem with our Visual Studio 2005 CDs. The statement that you can run the set-up from the second CD only doesn't resolve the problem either. I will have to contact Microsoft regarding this problem though. I haven't been able to prevent this from occurring as of yet.|||

I also got this error. This is how I was able to complete the installation.

I just restarted installation using disk 1 and selected only workstation components to install. It asked for disk 2 and the it completed the installation. At the end of the installation again I got that error popped up but it's ok the SQL Server installation is fine and complete.

Error installing SQL Server 2000 trial

I understand that to install the Enterprise Manager, I need to download the entire trial version and then select only those components I want to install. After downloading the SQLEVAL.EXE file, attempting to run it generates the following error message:
"There is not enough space on drive c:\ to extract this package
Please free up 439.51 MB and click Retry"
But my hard drive shows over 40 GB of free space. Running XP Home Edition. Machine is 2 weeks old.
You are hitting the classical 4GB free space boundary problem. Create a dummy file of a few hundred MB and you
should be fine.

Error installing SQL 2005 SP2 KB 921896

I am running Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2 running SQL 2005 Enterprise and am
getting repeated failures applying SQL 2005 SP2. The error is always the
same (see below).
I have made sure that there are no disabled services in the SQL Server
family of services, but this does not appear to have helped. This SQL
installation is pretty minimal, basically just the Database Engine. The
services list is:

SQL Server Active Directory Helper Manual (was disabled) Network Service

Description:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29528. The setup has encountered
an unexpected error while Setting Internal Properties. The error is: Fatal
error during installation.
I can send the detailed log if you need it.
Hello,
From the error message "Error Description : MSP Error: 29528 The setup has
encountered an unexpected error while Setting Internal Properties. The
error is: Fatal error during installation", this is a known issue. This
issue occurs because of one of the following reasons:
An operation has removed the local groups for the initial installation of
SQL Server 2005.
An operation has changed the security identifiers (SID) for the local
groups.
Considering your SQL Server is not a clustered instance, please follow the
below steps to workaround the problem:
Warning: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry
incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These
problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at
your own risk.
1. Remove the following registry subkeys that store SID settings:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL.X\Setup\SQLGroup
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL.X\Setup\AGTGroup
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL.X\Setup\FTSGroup
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL.X\Setup\ASGroup
Note In these registry subkeys, MSSQL.X is a placeholder for the
corresponding value on a specific system. You can determine MSSQL.X on a
specific system by examining the value of the MSSQLSERVER registry entry
under the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Instance
Names\SQL\
2. Reinstall the SQL Server 2005 service pack or the SQL Server 2005 hotfix
package.
For more information about this issue, please refer to KB 925976:
<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;925976>
Please let em know if this resolve the problem. If you encounter any
further error, please also let's know. Thank you.

Error installing SQL 2005 SP2 KB 921896

I am running Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2 running SQL 2005 Enterprise and am
getting repeated failures applying SQL 2005 SP2. The error is always the
same (see below).
I have made sure that there are no disabled services in the SQL Server

installation is pretty minimal, basically just the Database Engine. The
services list is:

From the error message "Error Description : MSP Error: 29528 The setup has

issue occurs because of one of the following reasons:
An operation has removed the local groups for the initial installation of
SQL Server 2005.
An operation has changed the security identifiers (SID) for the local
groups.
Considering your SQL Server is not a clustered instance, please follow the
below steps to workaround the problem:

Error Installing Reporting Services

Hi all,
I'm currently installing Reporting Services Enterprise Edition in one
computer that use :
- Windows 2000 Server+SP4
- SQL Server Standard Edition
And I've got errors during installation :
Package 'VsRptDesigner Package' has failed to load properly ( GUID = ...
Package 'ACT Project Package' has failed to load properly ( GUID = ...
Package 'ReportDesignerPackage' has failed to load properly ( GUID = ...
Package 'DataWarehouse VSIntegration layer' has failed to load properly
( GUID = ...
Now, I cannot load Ms. Visual Studio.NET at all. My question is :
1. How to solve this problem?
2. Is it wrong to install Report Server, Report Manager & Report
Designer in one computer?
Please help,

I've tried that suggested solution before I post this question and
still doesn't work.
But the Protected Storage have ran already after VS.NET installation
but I restart it as wanted and nothing changed.
I forgot to mention that I've install VS.NET successfully at WinXP at
the same computer, but failed at Win 2000+SP4.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks|||Thanks for your answer.

error in WHERE statement

dear sirs i am using sql server 2000 enterprise edition, i am new to sql server and also am learning the sql language...

I have a table named spt_datatype_info
that table has a column called TYPE_NAME
I have given a WHERE statement in a query:

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE (TYPE_NAME = smallint)

i know actually the value smallint has to be given in quotes...
Now my question is: When i give the Verify SQL syntax
then it does not return any error, but when i run it...then it given the following error...

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid column name 'smallint'.

what does this mean...??
If the SQL statement is wrong then it should return an error when verifying the statement...

regards,
kanishkit's because this sql is perfectly valid in terms of syntax:

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE (TYPE_NAME = smallint)

The only reason it fails is because there is no column named smallint in that table. That's not a syntax error.

Now this query, on the other hand, works, because both columns exist, and has exactly the same form as yours:

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE TYPE_NAME = LOCAL_TYPE_NAME

is that what you are asking?|||not actually, i was saying that i was looking for a value in the column TYPE_NAME named smallint

I was giving the WHERE clause to look for a value called smallint in the column TYPE_NAME. the column has many vaules in it...smallint is one of them...

maybe i should have written it as:

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE (TYPE_NAME = 'smallint')

Since i am new to SQL language....what were you refering to...??...Although i quite got my answer...

Can you please tell me...what is the intersection of the column and row called??....for example in ms Excel when the row 7 and column D meet then a cell is formed...called D7

But in SQl server...what is the intersection of the Column and Row called...?? Like the cell in ms Excel...??

regards,
kanishk|||the original query you wrote,

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE (TYPE_NAME = smallint)

means:

"give me all rows in spt_datatype_info where the value in the TYPE_NAME column equals the value in the smallint column"

This query failed because there is no column named smallint in that table.

The query you MEANT to write,

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE TYPE_NAME = 'smallint'

means:

"give me all rows in spt_datatype_info where the value in the TYPE_NAME column equals 'smallint' "

see the difference?|||the intersection of row and column is called "the value of column Y for row X"

i realize that sounds somewhat flippant, but relational database theory is based upon primary keys, so "row X" means "the row where the primary key value is X" since that's how you tell rows apart, and "column Y" means "the column with 'Y' as the column name" since that's how you tell columns apart

simple, innit ;)|||the original query you wrote,

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE (TYPE_NAME = smallint)

means:

"give me all rows in spt_datatype_info where the value in the TYPE_NAME column equals the value in the smallint column"

This query failed because there is no column named smallint in that table.

The query you MEANT to write,

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE TYPE_NAME = 'smallint'

means:

"give me all rows in spt_datatype_info where the value in the TYPE_NAME column equals 'smallint' "

see the difference?

thanks, i was wondering that when i give the command that you gave up...viz,

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE TYPE_NAME = 'smallint'

when i run it, then automatically the TYPE_NAME column takes brackets,,,why is that??...i have shown it below...

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE (TYPE_NAME = 'smallint')

regards,
kanishk|||That is because you are running this query in the SQL section of enterprise manager. Enterprise manager will try to bracket all where conditions
so if your query is something like

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE TYPE_NAME = 'smallint' OR TYPE_NAME = 'int'

Then on running it you will get

SELECT *
FROM spt_datatype_info
WHERE (TYPE_NAME = 'smallint') OR (TYPE_NAME = 'int')

Try running the query in SQL Analyzer and you will not get the brackets..... however i guess the brackets are purely for readability and in the end finally makes no difference.....|||dear sir, i have started using the SQL query Analyzer, i have another question,
i just put in the LIKE condition...

SELECT * FROM spt_datatype_info WHERE TYPE_NAME LIKE '%s'

now this will give all the values in the TYPE_NAME column which start with any characters but end with 's' , thats why i have put '%s' , now suppose i want all the values that have 2 letters as starting and the 3rd letter as 's' , so what do symbol do i use??

Like in windows when we used to give in command prompt the ! , exclamation mark for the characters we did not know but were sure of the count of them, and the star '*' for the characters we did not know and were not sure of their count..

Similarly in SQL what would we give for the LIKE condition..??

regards,
kanishk|||... LIKE '__s%'this is all explained nicely in the manual

Don't use Enterprise Manager to view or modify data - use Query Analyzer.

Start reading:

You could avoid the whole mess by using the proper tools, i.e. using
Query Analyzer instead of Enterprise Manager.
Tracy McKibben
MCDBA
http://www.realsqlguy.com|||Adi,
The nature of the problem mentioned is using the wrong tool for the job.
Enterprise Manager is NOT the 'right' tool to use for table alteration, data
manipulation, or, as you noticed, even viewing large amounts of data.
Tracy's advise is good advise. Continuing to use EM sets you up for
numerous, as of yet, inexperienced, problems -of which this is just the tip
of the iceberg.
Your question is like asking how to hammer a nail with a screwdriver. And
when someone mentions that a hammer would be better, your response is like
saying "I don't care, I am going to hammer the nail with the screwdriver."
You won't find many skilled SQL Server folks actively encouraging or
abetting the use of Enterprise Mangler.

Now, I'm not against your advice or anyones for that matter. In fact that's
what we are looking for through these forums. I agree with what you said as
I've been managing SQL Servers since v6.5 days. But if I come accross this
problem and google or MS KB not being able to shortlist the problem
resolution then my search is always for the possible answer to the question.
Thanks again for your wise words. have a good day.

error in Enterprise Manager while returning all or few rows.

Hi, Everyone
I use SQL Server Enterprise Manager to access DB server.
I can connect and see the tables fine. But when i tried
to open table returen all rows or open design table, I
got an error saying:
An unexpected error happend during this operation.
[MS Desgin Tools] -- Not enough storage is available to
complete this operation.
Any idea how to fix this? This is SQL2K SP4 on WIN2K SP4.
Thanks

Don't use Enterprise Manager to view or modify data - use Query Analyzer.

You could avoid the whole mess by using the proper tools, i.e. using
Query Analyzer instead of Enterprise Manager.

http://www.realsqlguy.com|||Adi,
The nature of the problem mentioned is using the wrong tool for the job.

Error in Enterprise Manager

Hi,
I have SQL Server Developer edition running on Windows XP, and when I open
SQL Enterprise manager and right click on any table on the master database
and select "Open Table" and then "Return all Rows" i got this error:
"An unexpected error occurred during this operation"...
Any ideas how to troubleshoot this issue is highly welcomed!
Thanks a lot!
Hi
You may want to try and re-install the client tools!
If you want to see the SQL then use profiler to capture it.

Error in Enterprise Manager

In Enterprise Manager, when I expand the objects and click on the database
object for my live system I get the following error message:
Title bar: "Internet Explorer Script Error"
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 307
Char: 2
Error: Unspecified error.
Code: 0
URL:
res://C:\Program%20Files\Microsoft%20SQL%20Server\80\Too ls\Binn\Resources\1033\sqlmmc.rll/Tabs.html
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
Yes/NO.
Whether I press Yes or No the right pane say the database is undefined.
All other database work fine and the system seems to be running fine.
Any Ideas?
Dan
Is this in the taskpad view? If so, it happens to me a lot. A
workaround is to change the View to Large icons, Small icons, or
something besides taskpad. Then close EM, then open it back, and you
can then change the view back to taskpad. Not exactly sure why it
happens.
